meet alexis aka jonesy

Alexis is the creator of Jonesin4Jonesy, a blog cataloging her adventures as a curly-haired fashionista and cancer researcher. Dedicated to inspiring her readers to push past their boundaries and explore the things in life that truly make them happy.

Alexis received her bachelor's in biochemistry from Boston College (Go Eagles!) and her master's in biomedical science from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City. She has published in several scientific journals and loves working in an environment where she can use her love of problem solving to create new and innovative therapies for patients with rare cancers.

As a native of the Bronx, New York, she is an active member of her community and was one of the original founders of the annual Parkchester community health fair.

Her style is "edgy chic"- a sophisticated urban look with details that are out of the ordinary. For her, there is no such thing as too much color.

She is an avid traveler and loves to wave chase. She has been surfing since 2013 and has turned her love of the sport into an active lifestyle.

How long have you been natural?

I stopped being a relaxed woman in April of 2006. It was a decision fueled by wanting to lead a more health conscious and chemical free life. I did the big chop and it was one of the best decisions of my life. I was more accepting of my authentic self and that has allowed me to keep evolving ever since.

Why Biomedical science?

Because unlocking some of life's little secrets with the intention to help others live longer is just fascinating and cool!

why surfing?

It has become my internal inspiration and motivation. It's rough and tough and exciting and terrifying all at the same time. It provides a place where I feel closest to myself and the earth.
